The fate of 468 HSC examinees has become uncertain as Kachalong College campus in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila was submerged due flood caused by torrential rainfall for the last several days.

The ground floor of the college was flooded by the rain water while the main road in Baghaichhari road went under five-feet water, causing immense sufferings to the residents and examinees, said Prof. Nazrul Islam, Principal of the Kachalong Government College.

The low-lying areas of the district were flooded due to the incessant rainfall. Besides, the second year final examination of 174 degree level students of the college are also going and the students were seen trying to reach the exam centres by boat on Tuesday.

However, the college authorities have informed the matter to the education board concerned and Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) but no decision has yet to come. On the other hand, Krititto Chakma, 12, a schoolboy, went missing as he was washed away by the flood water while crossing the road on Tuesday.

UNO Shirin Akter said, “There is no way to hold the examination at the exam centre and I have asked the college principal to submit a letter in this regard. The board authorities were also informed. We are thinking about postponing the examinations.” Meanwhile, the 300 tourists who got stranded in the Sajek area were returning to their respective destinations with the help of the Army on Wednesday.

Over 2000 people took shelter at the shelter centres as the low-lying areas in the upazila were inundated due to the heavy rainfall.
