BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has congratulated Sir Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, following his historic victory in the UK general election. 

"Congratulations on your historic victory," Rahman wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. 

His message came shortly after Sir Starmer was confirmed as Britain’s new prime minister, with his centre-left Labour party achieving a landslide victory ending 14 years of Conservative rule. "I wish you well as PM and hope you will play a role in voicing UK support for democratic elections in Bangladesh," Rahman added.

Rishi Sunak, the outgoing prime minister, is expected to tender his resignation to King Charles III. The monarch will then invite Starmer, as the leader of the largest party in Parliament, to form a government. Since taking over in early 2020, Starmer has worked to reposition Labour towards the centre.
