FIFA WC Qualifiers: Australian Football team arrives Dhaka

The 6th times World Cup playing Australian Football team arrived Dhaka Tuesday noon to play their Group 1 away match of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup against hosts Bangladesh on Thursday (June 6).

The match will kick  off at 4:45 pm at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in the capital.

The Australian team, which was  eliminated from the 2nd round of the last FIFA World Cup held Qatar in 2022 losing to Argentina by 1-2 goal, reached Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport in Dhaka at 12:15 pm via Thailand and will return home Thursday evening soon after playing the match.

Touring Aussies team will make their lone practice session on Wednesday at 5:30 pm at the match venue -- Bashundhara Kings Arena -- after taking rest on Tuesday.

However, Bangladesh will play war-torn Arabian nation Lebanon in their last Group I away match on June 11 at a neutral venue -- Al Saad Club Stadium in Doha, Qatar.

The match will kick off at 7: pm local time and 10: pm Bangladesh time.

Eatlier, Australia outplayed Bangladesh by 7-0 goal in their home match of the ongoing qualifying meet in Australia November last year.

Earlier, Australia also played Bangladesh twice in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 2015 and beat Bangladesh by 4-0 and 5-0 goal respectively.

On completion of four Group I matches, Australia dominated group table to qualify for the next round with all-win record securing full 12 points, war-torn Palestine are in the distant 2nd collecting seven points with two wins one draw and one defeat.

Lebanon is in the 3rd slot securing two points with two draws and two defeats while Bangladesh remained at the bottom with one point from four matches after making 1-1 draw with Lebanon in their home match in Dhaka.

Earlier, Bangladesh suffered 0-7 goals defeat against World Cup playing Australia in their away match, drew 1-1 with Arabian nation Lebanon in the home match, suffered 0-5 defeat against Palestine in their away match in Kuwait and conceded a shocking 0-1 goal defeat in the dying moment against Palestine in their home match in Dhaka.
